Home Modifications

The act of getting up and down causes a lot of pain and stress due to the arthritis in both my knees. Since the Outta Bed® has been installed beside my bed I now have a very useful support tool.

Outta Bed® allows me to grab hold with confidence, and ease my body, first to a sitting position and at my own speed. It also gives me a few moments needed to get everything in gear. It was a blessing after my knee surgeries.

It’s also a great book rest.

Home modifications and assistive technology (AT) devices no longer need to be sterile or ineffective. When done correctly home modifications should make a home safer and more comfortable so you can age in place safely and with dignity.

Promotes a normal lifestyle without compromising safety, efficacy or decor. It's almost invisible.

Products that slide under the mattress increase pressure points, compromise the structural integrity of your bed, and quality of sleep. They also promote an intuitional look and lifestyle.

Proper home safety assessments and home modifications give us an opportunity to "Age in Place" safer and longer. Often simple modifications can reduce fall risks and injuries from falls. While many products used today actually increase the risk of what you are trying to prevent i.e. falls. For example:

Other products can increase risks by making tasks more complicated.

Presently, there is a dangerous knowledge gap leaving many with a false sense of security. Often those doing home safety assessments are not trained appropriately in key areas of home safety like bed safety. Often the assessments only cover what available funds will cover causing safety gaps. Learn more about:

Why is bed safety so important?

"Falls from bed are the second leading cause of fall deaths" according to the National Safety Council (nsc.org). The safety focus is on stairs/steps for good reason since they are #1 cause of fall deaths. The bedroom has been overlooked because few understand bed safety yet it is a major cause of falls deaths.
